Description: An early British Model 1822 Infantry Officer's sword with a pipe-backed blade, Queen Victoria Crown marking, and steel scabbard. The hilt is excellent, with a wonderful grip. It has complete wire that is very slightly loose at the top. It has the iconic folding reverse guard that functions well. The blade retains its acid etching, but it is somewhat hard to see due to a coat of lacquer that is uneven on the blade, giving it darker areas and lighter areas. Overall the blade is very good, with a few minor spots that will clean well. The pipe-backed blade has a double edged point that is quite dramatic, and the sword is beautifully balanced. The black scabbard is proper for the type, and of the time period, but might be replaced since it doesn't have a cut-out for the folding reverse guard. The sword is 39 1/2 inches long overall in the scabbard, and has a 32 1/2 inch blade. The blade was period sharpened, and has a few minor nicks in the edge. The sword is tight and straight, with no looseness in the hilt. If things are not as I describe them to be, you may return them for a full refund, including postage.
