Description: This WAY COOL United States Post Office Department document is a Certificate of Appointment in which Charles J. Davis is appointed as the Postmaster at Harkers Island in Carteret County in North Carolina in Dec 28, 1904, by the US Postmaster General at the time, Robert J. Wynne, WHO SIGNED THE CERTIFICATE IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER. The certificate was found unframed, stored flat. It is stiff paper and WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED. There is some light soiling seen around the certificate and one small tear bottom edge to the right of the seal. The seal is flattened and darkened. The lettering in this seal is, Post Office Department United States of America. I can't quite make out the design in the seal. The certificate will be stored shrink-wrapped against cardboard and shipped in a 24" by 18" stiff mailer with additional cardboard for sturdiness. On Robert J. Wynne from Wikipedia: "Robert John Wynne (November 18, 1851 – March 11, 1922) was an American who served as United States Postmaster General from 1904 to 1905, and as Consul General at the American embassy in the United Kingdom from 1905 to 1910. He was also a distinguished and popular journalist for a number of newspapers and magazines in the late 1800s." SL
