Antique 1800's Orig. North African Takouba Sword & Sheath Crusader's Esq

Description: Antique 1800's Orig. N. African Takouba Sword & Sheath Crusader's Esq Here is an original, circa 1800's North African Takouba sword and sheath. The leather work is extremely detailed, and well made. The sword is full tang double edge sword. It has hallmarks on the mid part of the blade on both sides. This is one of the best examples I have ever seen. In very good condition for its age and past usage. There is some wear on the sheath and such, but keep in mind most other Takouba's sheath's from this same age range are no longer in existence, or are much more degraded than this one. It is great that this one still has it's original sheath.The leather strap sword hangers are missing/ appears to be removed. The leather In the handle has some wear. The sword has some wear from time and past usage, but is museum quality. See photo's for most accurate visual description. This would make a wonderful display piece for any collector. Background:This North African Takouba comes from the Tuareg people of the Berber clans. A people who go back to just after the time of Christ, they are/were a nomadic a nomadic people, and generally avoid outside contact. Their great Queen ruled a vast North African Empire around 500 A.D. The first encounters with Europeans were in the Crusader's time around 1100-1300 AD, and the early European Knightly Swords became the "model" for the Tuareg's Takouba. The French Colonized much of the North African Sahara in the 19th Century but the Tuareg people were not easily subugated and rebelled in 1881 destroying an entire French Expeditionary Force. The war continued up until 1905 when peace was finally established.
