Halberd Renaissance Period Click images to enlarge Description Antique, Second Half of the 16th Century, circa 1570 A.D. from Renaissance period time, European halberd with a large steelhead with a sturdy and long spike of diamond-shaped cross-section, a robust crescentic axe-blade pierced by two groups of three dots, a downturned rear-fluke pierced with a group of five dots. There are worn-out marks on the middle rib of the halberd's head, which are probably the remains of the armor's mark (please see the seventh photo in the listing). Open socket extending into two side-straps (langets), mounted on a wooden shaft of octagonal section and fastened with two iron pins and one iron screw (later addition). One pin is missing. MEASUREMENTS: Total length with a wooden post: 207 cm (81.5. inches). The total length of steelhead with languets: 60 cm (23.6 inches). The length of the steel head without languets: 48 cm (18.9 inches). Width of the steelhead from the beak-shaped fluke to the upper point of the axe: 30 cm (11.81 inches). The wooden shaft is slightly bent, as consistent with age. Possibly the pole was cut for transportation reasons. Below the straps, you can see the cut at an angle and the connection to the other part with small nails. It is possible that the upper part of the shaft is the same age as the halberd and the lower part is a later addition, but why is the pole bent from age and use? There is another possibility since the shaft is bent due to use and age, the top and bottom of the shaft are of the same age, and when these two parts have been joined, the lower part of the shaft has been sanded to remove imperfections at the joint of the wood. CONDITION: Good condition for its age. It shows age and uses, well preserved for an antique combat halberd that is over 400 years old. Iron head with minor slight pitting, wooden pole cut in half and connected by a modern screw.
