Description: This antique 15 inch Atkins "Silver Steel" farrier rasp is the longest of these your seller has ever held or beheld. Its width measures 1 7/16" at widest, tapering down somewhat from that point. This rasp features a handmade wood handle grip and measures 22 3/4 inches overall from the tip of the rasp to the end of the grip. This 8 & 10 to-a-row diamond teeth rasp is of half-round shape; it weighs a substantial 1 pound 15 ounces as pictured! Note that the "Atkins" mark, and particularly the words "Silver Steel" (above "Made in USA") are faintly stamped, difficult to read, and best seen in the photograph. Note that every surface of this rasp bears cutting teeth, and those teeth are clean, save for a very few spots of deposits (see photos). What's more, those teeth are very edgy and sharp, and one side is as good and sharp as the other. The only comparable edges that come to the seller's mind are the metal perforations on the coarse side of a food grater, or barnacles attached to a seawall. You can touch either, but you don't want to drag your hand over them!! Seller is not a farrier, but believes this rasp will readily do the job intended, for horn, hoof, or wood. Be aware that seller has NOT chemically or sonically cleaned or oiled either the tool or handle. Also please note that the wooden handle is drilled for hanging and bears a tight and straight lengthwise crack from the metal ferule to the butt. The crack is on one side only; it does not go through, and the grip is otherwise smooth. Regardless, as this is a pre-owned antique item, it must be offered here "as-is."
