Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE A charming native annual wildflower used in many native seed mixes. Native to and most widespread in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas but adaptable to and found from New York to Wisconsin and south—virtually anywhere in the U.S. The large flower’s ray flowers are a vibrant pink-lavender color with a lighter center disc flowers. The flowerhead is surrounded by overlapping patterned bracts which form the shape of a basket, hence its common name. The unique basket pattern and lovely flower makes for an excellent cur or dried flower. Seeds are nutrient-rich and preferred by song birds and other wildlife. Enjoyed by all pollinators from bees to butterflies to hummingbirds. Though American basket flower can grow to 5’ tall flowers are more commonly (2)3-4’ tall. Very drought and heat-tolerant. There is much disagreement in the scientific community regarding the classification of this plant. We are using the traditional name—Centaurea americana instead of Plectocephalus a. Either way this is still one of our great common American flowers. Note: If you order more than one lot of one species of seeds, for example you place two orders of 100 seeds, or whatever variation is offered, we assume you want 200 seeds and your order will be sent in one seed packet.
