Description: Here is a pretty remarkable piece of horse racing history and a true work of art. This is a copper or bronze trophy celebrating the career of the legendary French horse named Prestige, who won all 16 of his races in 1905 and 1906. He was originally owned by his breeder, Jules Ravaut, and upon his death became owned by William K. Vanderbilt, who was one of the founders of The Jockey Club. It appears this was a sort of lifetime achievement trophy, likely made under the orders of Vanderbilt, as it chronicles the entire career of Prestige. It appears to be made out of bronze or copper and has a remarkably intricate peacock feather design that includes the names of all the horses who Prestige defeated. On the base is the list of all 16 races he won and proclaims he was "Never Beaten." There are two screw holes on the base, so this likely was either attached to his stall during his stud career or perhaps was attached to Mr. Vanderbilt's desk. This is a little tricky to photograph but is really spectacular in person when you see the level of detail. This is about 6.5 inches tall and 11.5 inches wide and weighs 2 pounds, 12 ounces. It has some discoloration on the base that perhaps could be cleaned up with some polishing. There is a bit of a wobble where the peacock attaches to the base. I'm not sure if that can be corrected by tightening the screws as I have not tried. Please review the photos and use the magnify feature to review the condition.
