Condition The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and some surface marks.Collection Information Sulis Fine Art is delighted to present a small fine collection of original works, mainly figure studies in graphite and chalk, by the artist Alfred Kingsley Lawrence RA (1893-1975).Biography Alfred Kingsley Lawrence RA (1893-1975) was a painter and muralist, born in Lewes, Sussex. Lawrence studied under Richard George Hatton at King Edward VII School of Art in Newcastle upon Tyne, and under William Rothenstein at the Royal College of Art, 1920-23. In his final year, he was awarded the coveted Prix de Rome in 1923, where he spent two years at the BSR in the Italian capital. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1930 and a full member in 1938. He also showed at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters who elected him to their ranks in 1947. Among Lawrence's notable murals are ones in Laing Art Gallery, the Palace of Westminster and the Bank of England. He died in Kensington, London. His paintings of Queen Elizabeth and Sir Walter Raleigh were reproduced in the magazine Artwork in the September-November issue of 1927.
