Description: KENNEDY, ROBERT F. & JULES WITCOVER. 85 Days: The Last Campaign of Robert Kennedy - By Jules Witcover. New York: Putnam, 1969. First Edition. First Printing. Signed presentation copy from Jules Witcover to Sander Vanocur. Inscribed: “To Sandy Vanocur, With thanks, Jules Witcover.” Sander Vanocur (1928 – 2019) was an American television journalist who served as White House correspondent and national political correspondent for NBC News in the 1960s and early 1970s. He was one of the questioners at the first of the Kennedy-Nixon debates in 1960. In 1968, Vanocur covered Robert F. Kennedy’s campaign for the Presidency. At the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, Vanocur and Roger Mudd interviewed RFK back to back just minutes before he was shot by Sirhan Sirhan. This is discussed in the book and Vanocur is also thanked by Witcover in the book’s Acknowledgments. Very good in a very good plus dust jacket with a couple of tiny tears. The book is the comprehensive telling of the 85 days between Robert Kennedy’s announcement to run for President to his burial at Arlington written by veteran Washington correspondent Jules Witcover. Historic association copy.
