Description: Be sure to add me to your favorites list 6 and 1/4" Inch Tall NASA Space Explorers: Mercury Manned Space Capsule with it's Escape Tower, Never Played With Condition! Rare! This is a loose but never played with condition, nice version of a US Mercury Spacecraft. It is both the main capsule and a removable emergency escape tower. It's made of hard plastic, and is just over 6 inches long, approx. 6 and 1/4". The Mercury program was to send the first Americans into space! This particular one is Friendship 7. The escape tower pops off of the Mercury capsule, and the hatch on the capsule itself opens as well. The hatch will come off easily in the open position but will stay put if you display it. Moving it around will pop it off. The escape tower's function was to quickly remove the capsule off of it's Atlas or Redstone booster rocket, and the capsule itself was to hold one astronaut. This was a NASA collectible, part of the Space Explorers collectible series. This capsule was made in the mid 90's, so it's nearly 30 years old now. This is now RARE and hard to find, and it was never played with, only stored away for many years. This is a really nice version of America's first manned spacecraft! Thanks for looking!
