Description: Set of 4 Child's Brown Transferware Ironstone Dinner Plates MAIDEN HAIR FERN Ridgway Staffordshire England c1885 This is a child’s transferware dinner set of 4 plates, circa 1885, originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The ironstone plates each measure 4-1/2 inches long and stands 2-1/2 inches in diameter. Nicely potted for the size, to the standards usually only found in full-size Staffordshire table wares, the set is transfer printed in rich earthy brown. The set is abundantly decorated with beautiful Maiden Hair Fern, a fine example of the Victorian love of nature. It was made by Ridgway a pottery in Stoke-on-Trent in the Staffordshire region of England. The pattern dates to 1885. Marked with pattern name, registration lozenge and Ridgway backstamp. The set is in great condition with no chips cracks or repairs. Stilt marks and other minor typical manufacturing imperfections, original to the making and typical of the period. A fabulous little set is perfect to display in the finest dollhouse! Children's transferware of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after. Sold as is.
