This unique Gibson Custom Shop offering is based on a 1957 design by legendary former Gibson president Theodore “Ted” McCarty, who helped develop a number of Gibson’s most iconic models including the Les Paul, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, SG, and Firebird. The guitar now known as the Theodore (in tribute to McCarty) never made it past the design stage in McCarty’s time, rediscovered and produced in this extremely limited run as part of the Gibson Custom Shop's Archive Collection. Out of the 318 Theodores made for this run, only 106 were finished in Natural. The Theodore sports a number of distinctive features, including the tulip-shaped (double Florentine cutaways) slab alder body with walnut center strip and scimitar headstock, and this guitar has great natural resonance and a smooth, balanced quality for the pickup pair. The P-90s offer a glassy treble cut, excellent articulation and plenty of rich midrange bark. Featherweight at 6lbs 9oz, this Theodore has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
