Description: This is a GORGEOUS 'pinch jug' by Sid Luck (a fifth-generation Seagrove-area potter). It is glazed in his signature Crawdad Slip, which is made from clay that Sid digs right near his home (it got its name because he was watching his boys fish for crawdads in the creek when he discovered the clay, practically in his back yard). The crawdad slip glaze has many variations, but is typically a dark, glossy green with brown undertones. Warm or cool lights lovingly change the tones of glazed pottery. Seagrove is the ‘pottery capital’ of the world because a lot of the clay has a combination of sand/silica that gives that multi tone look naturally. Unlike other potters who add glass or other chemical components. Sid Luck work has been featured on PBS documentaries, written up in the New York Times, and exhibited in several prominent museums in the Southeast. His work is obviously very collectible. Sid calls this pinch-jug form (along with the little cap) "Granny's Medicine Bottle"; one can only imagine what kind of "medicine" Granny kept in the jug. Whether you use this as “Granny’s Medicine Bottle” or just lovely decor, it will surely be a conversation piece. I absolutely love the earthy tones.
