Description: 1998 Gibson ES-175 "Memphis Blues Ball '98"This is a rather unique ES-175 with a custom paint job celebrating several Blues legends, painted specifically for the 1998 Memphis Blues Ball charity auction. The Memphis Blues Ball was a charity event in Memphis that was held annually from 1994 - 2016. In 1998 Gibson donated guitars to the event and had local artists paint them for a charity auction. This particular ES-175 was painted by Memphis artists John Robinette, who has had a career in the visual arts for over 40 years and is still active today. References to famous blues legends are inscribed all over the guitar with a striking John Lee Hooker homage on the back of the guitar that has also appeared in many of his other works. This particular guitar does not have any lacquer finish like a traditionally finished Gibson guitar would have - the headstock, neck and body are all raw and un-laquered - underneath the custom paint job you can see the bare wood under the rhythm/treble switch and under the pickup surrounds. One could conceivably strip this back to the raw wood and do their own custom paint job. There is binding around the body like a typical ES-175.Aside from the custom paint, this seems to be an otherwise stock 1998 ES-175 except with gold hardware, and features Gibson pickups, Gotoh Tune-o-matic bridge, and Gibson tuners. Frets appear almost new, and while there are some scuffs on the tailpiece this is otherwise a very clean and probably infrequently played guitar.Includes a new Guild arch top hardcase as well as a signed appraisal letter from Gruhn Guitars from 2017 that came from the previous owner. Please take a look at the photos and message with any questions.
