Kathy is in the top row, 3rd from the left. Kathy Ann McGillis was born July 9,1957 in Newport Beach, she is known for her film roles such as Rachel Lapp in Witness, for which she received a Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations, Charlie in Top Gun in 1986, Made in Heaven, The House on Carroll Street and as Katheryn Murphy in The Accused, 1988. Photo # 7 shows Professional motorcycle speedway racer who later starred in television and in film Senior, Bruce Penhall. Bruce is shown in the bottom row, 2nd from the right. He was the World Speedway Champion in 1981 and 1982 and rode for the successful Cradley Health Heathens Speedway Team in the United Kingdom. He retired from speedway racing the night he won his second World Championship in front of his home crowd at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. At the last World Final held at the famous Wembley Stadium, 92,500 people witnessed Penhall come from behind to beat both former World Champions Ole Olsen of Denmark and Dane Tommy. Penhall the first American World Championship since Jack Milne had won the second ever title at Wembley in 1937. Bruce Penhall break America's 43 year drought. Also in 1981, Bruce Penhall partnered with fellow American Bobby Schwartz to win the World Pairs Championship in Katowice, Poland. On top of a clean sweep of all the SWAPA personality awards was a special citation from United States President Ronal Reagan. He later moved on to the world of Hollywood Movies and to powerboat racing, where he would become a world champion again. In 1982 he won the World Team Cup with the USA at White Stadium in London. Bruce Penhall was well known for his role as Cadet Officer Bruce Nelson in the final season of the NBC television series, CHIPS and in the role of Bruce Christian in the 1989 film Savage Beach and five of the movie's sequels. In 1999 Bruce Penhall was inducted into the A.M.A. Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Photo # 8 shows the Junior picture of Ted McGinley or Jefferson D'Arcy from the Married With Children television series, which he was in for six years from 1991 to 1997. Ted McGinley is in the top row, on the far right. Ted McGinley is also well known for his role as Charley Shanowski on ABC sitcom Hope and Faith. Ted also appeared on Happy Days for several years. He also appeared in the television shows, Dynasty and The Love Boat. He also played the villainous role of Stan Gable in the film, Revenge of the Nerds. Photo # 9 shows the Junior picture of Dana Sue Armburst or Dana Sue Gray, a bad lady, who is in the bottom row, 3rd from the right. Donna made the Honor Roll at Chowchilla State Prison for Women. See photo # 10. Dana was convicted of killing three elderly women in 1998 and was sentenced to Life in Prision without the Possibility of Parole. Which means Dana Armburst will not be attending the Newport Harbor 50th High School Reunion in 2025, she will not be missed. Photo # 11 shows the Sophomore picture of Lisa Vorkirk, who was the previous owner of this yearbook. Photo # 12 shows the school play, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in The Moon Marigolds. It says that Kelly McGillis played Beatrice, but I think they meant Kathy McGillis. Photos 13 and 14 show the Homecoming Queen and Court for 1974. Photo # 23 shows the Sophomore Picture of Volleyball Olympic Champion, Steve Simmons, one of the greatest male volleyball players ever. Steve Timmons is shown in the middle row, on the far right.Timmons changed the way the sport is played. In today's volleyball, a back row hitting is something that's regularly done. On a professional you can see it quite often during the games, but back in the 1980's that's not how it was done. Steve Timmons was one of the pioneers of this attacking weapon. He was doing it amazingly and more importantly from the position of middle blocker. He led the U.S. National Team, along with Karch Kiraly, Patrick Powers, Douglas "Dusty" Dvorak to the first Olympic Gold Medal ever in the 1948 Los Angeles Olympic Games. He was named MVP of the tournament. He also repeated this success in Seoul Korea for the Olympic Games. Steve Timmons was awarded, Best Blocker, while he received the award for the Male Volleyball Player of the Year in the United States. The last photo shows a High School Love Letter to Lisa Vorkirk, the previous owner of this yearbook. I am not sure who wrote it, but I believe he was a Senior. Shelf # K.
