Description: 1965 NFL "GAME-OF-THE-WEEK" Cleveland Browns vs Philadelphia Eagles Rare Sportsfilms, Inc. is the rights owner of this DVD The October 3, 1965 Browns-Eagles NFL “Game-Of-The-Week” film is another nostalgic title from the vast Rare Sportsfilms library of old pro football films not available from any other source – not even NFL Films has this one! Narrated by Tom Brookshier this 27-minute film, now available on DVD, is in gorgeous COLOR! The Eagles are 1-1 entering this game at Franklin Field, Philadelphia. The World Champion Browns are also 1-1, having been upset by the Cardinals in Cleveland the week before, however the Browns would go on to again win the Eastern Conference in 1965. Jim Brown is playing his last season and sets a new record in this game, scoring his 106th and 107th TDs, breaking the all-time NFL scoring mark held by Don Hutson! With Norm Snead injured, King Hill is QB for the Eagles in this game, and Jim Ninowski is also substituting for Cleveland’s Frank Ryan. After a scoreless first quarter, Hill has driven the Eagles to the Browns’ 2-yd line. On 3rd and goal, Pete Retzlaff scores to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead. The Browns retaliate and on first and goal at the Eagle one, Jim Brown skirts right end to score six for Cleveland. Before the half, Dave Lloyd, replacing the injured Sam Baker, kicks his first NFL FG to give the Eagles the lead at intermission, 10-7. Incidentally, Cleveland Kicker Lou Groza, is playing in his 177th game, another NFL record! A Ninowski to Gary Collins 13-yd TD pass puts the Browns back on top, 14-10 in the third quarter. In the final quarter, the Eagles drive to the Browns two and on 4th down, Hill crosses up the Browns by tossing a pass to Earl Gros for the score and the Eagles not only take back the lead, but force the Browns to punt on the next series. Then comes the turning point of the game. With a little over 6 minutes left, the Browns’ punt is fumbled by All-Pro Timmy Brown and Cleveland recovers on the Eagle 2-yd line! Jim Brown scores to give the Browns the lead, 21-17. You’ll see a Zerex anti-freeze commercial, then Ross Fichtner intercepts King Hill and runs the ball in from the 30-yard line to give the Browns a comfortable 28-17 lead! On the Eagle’s next series, a Hill pass skips off Ron Goodwin’s hands to Larry Benz. From the Eagle 4, Jim Brown again runs around right end to score the final TD of the day, and the Browns, with 21 points in the last six minutes of the game, win 35-17! Throughout the game you’ll see many other Browns of the day: Erich Barnes, Bernie Parrish, Walter Roberts, Ernie Green, Dale Lindsey, Walter Beach, Leroy Kelly, Dick Schafrath, Gene Hickerson, Sid Williams, Paul Wiggin, Jim Kanicki, Bill Glass, Monte Clark, John Wooten, and Dick Modzelewski. Also in action for the Eagles are Irv Cross, Nate Ramsey, Al Nelson, Harold Wells, Jim Ringo, Mike Morgan, John Meyers, Ed Blaine, Joe Scarpati, Jim Skaggs and more!
