After an off year, he was drafted and spent the 1944 and ’45 seasons in the military. He spent the 1946 and ’47 seasons with the Hankyu Braves before rejoining the Giants in 1948. In 1948 he was named to his first of five Best Nine teams as he led the league in home runs and batting. Aota would also lead the league in home runs in 1951, 1954, 1956 and 1957. When he retired after the 1959 season, at just 34 years old, Aota was the NPB career home run leader with 265.
