Description: Up for auction is an beautiful censored cover from Los Angeles CA, USA to US Army Captain Richard Roshe who was captured in the Philippine Island by the Japanese army and then interned at the POW camp in the Philippines. Prisoner of War. Postmarked August 23, 1943. Priced to sell. Nice postal history cover. Exceptionally rare piece of postal history. Richard A. Roshe was a Captain in the Army during World War II. Richard was captured by Imperial Japan while serving in the Philippine Islands, and was sent to POW Camp # 3, Old Bilbid prison, near Rizal, Manila, Philippines where 485 other American POWs were held. Richard's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on May 7, 1942, and the last report was made on January 7, 1945. Based on these two reports, Richard was imprisoned for at least 976 days (2 years and ~9 months), one of the longest durations of captivity recorded. After surviving the attack on the Oryoko Maru, Richard died in the sinking of the Enoura Maru on January 9, 1945. Shipping will be a flat $2.00 within the continental U.S. for USPS mail.
