Photographed at Alexandria VA in 1941 by the documentary photographer Charles Medin. The house, built circa 1724, was purchased by the city in 1944 to prevent its demolition. When WW2 broke out, the Ramsay House became a brothel to service the sexual needs of workers in the Navy's Torpedo Factory, located less than a block away. What stopped this illicit activity was a great fire that swept through the whole building, making it uninhabitable, being partially open to the elements. The 1950s saw its restoration - and the house looks completely different today and unrecognizable from this image.Charles Medin was artist/photographer and then assistant editor of the Illinois Central Magazine, circa 1900s to 1949. His images are well-known to railfans as he documented railroads and city street scenes across the Eastern & Southern states.**Multiple negatives purchased at same time ship for the price of one** Negative Measures 3.25 x 5.5 Inches. In Very Good Condition. Please see photos for further details Thanks for Looking and Good Luck BiddingSW4JC
