He made his debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1918 and went on to play for several teams, including the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, and Philadelphia Phillies. Known for his speed and strong defense, Heathcote had a solid career, slashing .275/.333/.375 over 15 seasons, earning 11.1 WAR. He also had a unique place in history, as he and Max Flack were traded for each other between the Cardinals and Cubs during a doubleheader in 1922. Heathcote retired in 1932, leaving behind a legacy as a dependable and versatile player. Sadly, he passed away at age 40, having spent 14 of the 40 years of his life in the major leagues. Produced by the World Wide Gum Company, the Canadian subsidiary of the U.S.-based Goudey Gum Company (famous for pioneering the inclusion of baseball cards with gum), this set is nearly identical to the 1934 Goudey Gum set from the U.S. The card fronts feature white borders framing colorful portraits or action shots of players, with "Big League Chewing Gum" printed in white on a red stripe at the bottom. The backs, printed in green ink, provide short player biographies, typically in English, though some include both French and English text.
