Description: I have here for sale a book entitled GUIA MICHELIN de ESPANA, Edicion VIII, published in 1927 by Michelin et Cie, Clermont-Ferrant, France. Published as part of a series of guides this one was prepared for the Spanish market. There are colour maps, b/w plans of towns and cities, itineraries for motoring and b/w adverts interspersed throughout. Part I is all about Michelin tyres and how to maintain them and your car, Titulo II is a Guia Carretera or route planner through all parts of the country, interspersed with full page colour Exursion itineraries (first three pages are detached). Laid out alphabetically by town name. Part III is Useful Information for Travellers and then there are 2 colour double page maps with Michelin adverts in between. In 1900, there were fewer than 3,000 cars on the roads of France. To increase the demand for cars and, accordingly, car tyres, car tyre manufacturers and brothers Édouard and André Michelin published a guide for French motorists, the Michelin Guide. Nearly 35,000 copies of this first, free edition of the guide were distributed. It provided information to motorists, such as maps, tyre repair and replacement instructions, car mechanics listings, hotels, and petrol stations throughout France. In 1904, the brothers published a guide for Belgium similar to the Michelin Guide. Michelin subsequently introduced guides for Algeria and Tunisia (1907); the Alps and the Rhine (northern Italy, Switzerland, Bavaria, and the Netherlands) (1908); Germany, Spain, and Portugal (1910); the British Isles (1911); and "The Countries of the Sun" (Les Pays du Soleil) (Northern Africa, Southern Italy and Corsica) (1911). In 1909, an English-language version of the guide to France was published and so the series grew. Following the usage of the Murray's and Baedeker guides, the guide began to award stars for fine dining establishments in 1926 which is what it is best known for today. Yellow cloth hardboards with red Michelin logo, red map of Spain and Portugal divided into sections and red title lettering to the front board and spine. Both boards firmly attached and hinges not cracked. Pages pretty clean and firm. Condition: fair/good. 632 pages, 20 x 11 cm.
