1923 W515-2 hand cut Ty Cobb card, #10, PSA Authentic, Inaugural HOF

Description: This a Ty Cobb hand-cut baseball card from the 1923 W515-2 strip set. It has been authenticated and graded "Authentic" by PSA and was encapsulated and assigned the certification number of 74362542. There were sixty cards in this set, and they measure approximately 1 and 1/2" x 2 and 1/2". The obverse images were derived from Underwood & Underwood wire service photographs. The backs are blank. This Ty Cobb card is number 10 in the series. This set of cards is sometimes referenced as the Little Wonder Picture Series, as those words were printed along the very top of the five-card strips. Being hand-cut, each presents a little differently. The person who cut this one cut away the borders on three sides but left the important bottom border, on which is printed, 10. "Ty" CobbManager & OutfielderDetroit Tygers, A.L. Please note the spelling of the team's name, "Tygers". Three years earlier, sportswriter Robert W. Maxwell popularized that nickname because of the dominance that Cobb had long enjoyed on the team. It appeared in a 1920 article that Mr. Maxwell wrote for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. Ty Cobb played for the Tigers for twenty-two years and received 222 votes out of the 226 cast for the inaugural 1936 class of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Had it not been for the cutting technique, this card would have graded a lot higher, it is in very good condition, please see the photographs.
