Description: The Roosevelt American Legion Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan was originally built in 1917 as the Roosevelt Community Center, part of Camp Custer. It was turned over to the American Legion in 1921 and became a tuberculosis hospital, and later a general hospital. The hospital was eventually repurposed as a rehabilitation center and renamed the Southwest Regional Rehabilitation Center in 1965. It was then used as long-term housing and health care for veterans, known as the Legion Villa, until it was demolished. I believe these real photo post cards are from when it was turned over to the American Legion to become a tuberculosis hospital. These come from my family estate. I had a family member who originally worked at the Battle Creek Sanitarium, so these are from around that time. I do have some other items that are not listed, so if you are curious, please message me! I’ll be more than willing to make you a private listing.
