1920's I.M.R.(MUTOSCOPE) ARCADE PURPLE RISQUE GIRLS "HOT STUFF"! RARE!!!

Description: This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. The I.M.R. card company of New York was a competitor to the Exhibit card company, later known as Mutoscope (which accounted for the middle initial in their name), and in the 1920's they issued a series of distinctively purple-tinted cards, 3 ½ x 5 ½ blank-backed on heavy card stock, sold in penny arcade machines throughout the nation. I.M.R. specialized in fairly daring, risque cards. But while their 1940's issues used popular pin-up illustrations that stayed on the safe line of censorship, their earlier cards are pretty daring, even by modern standards. To put it bluntly, they sometimes featured genuine nudity, and while the photos are heavily retouched in the style of the day, there's no doubt that the young women pictured are...pretty darn close to naked. As cheesecake artwork, it's stil pretty daring, and young boys must have sought these out eagerly back in the day. The purple series usually featured one or two chorus-girl types, scantily-clad, and the caption would be a real groaner of a joke. Here I have an example featuring characters named Hot Stuff and Cold Stuff. It's in very nice condition (see scan). This would be a terrific addition to any collection!
