Description: 1920s Philadelphia’s Horn & Brannen Bridge Floor LampDescriptionHorn & Brannen, famed, top-notch Philadelphia lighting manufacturers, signed this graceful beauty with a brass plate soldered to the bottom of one of the three feet. Horn and Brannen originated around 1880; I’m guessing this lamp was fashioned around 1910-1920.Note the many amazing elements! The finial, for example, might be the hands-down winner of the “exemplary finial” contest which I’ve just launched. The knurled nut which governs up and down movement of the upper part of the shaft is well over an inch in diameter. This trumps even Tiffany!Note the telescoping aspect of the main shaft. Then check out the patina, which is in excellent condition throughout (almost like new) with the sole exception of the plated steel socket holder (and why they didn’t design and make their own I’ll never know). You can see in the close-up photos of the finial and other elements that this lamp has a two-tone patina, bronze and really dark, almost black, bronze (lending to a certain dimensionality). By the way, the knurled nut under that socket cover allows its movement fore and aft.Think super-heavy! This lamp’s certainly over 30 pounds (solid brass tends to be heavy!). The wiring appears to be original (or old, anyway) and is in excellent condition, still flexible and break-free. The lamp works fine. There’s a mogul socket in that huge socket housing, of course, and the switch is three-way, so depending on the bulb you use, this lamp has the potential to flood your room with as much light as you need, when you need it (a mogul bulb can be purchased with 100-200-300 watt increments). The opening on the top of the socket housing is three inches in diameter, and accommodates the white glass shade that I've installed there. The glass bowl-shaped shade has a diameter of 10 inches. Now you can start thinking about acquiring a shade to rest on the white glass bowl. This truly museum-worthy floor lamp will be one of the shining jewels of your lighting collection!Measurements: 64 inches high, and from the finial at the end of the horizontal socket-cover holding shaft to the main shaft, 16 inches. The three feet have a diameter of approximately 15 inches. This lamp's clearly too large to ship by conventional means (UPS or USPS); it will have to be transported by freight. I leave that up to the buyer, who will need to make arrangements with the shipper of his/her choice, and to independently pay all costs related to the shipping of the lamp.
