Description: Rare, 1910 real photo postcard (RPPC) Jack Johnson with his facsimile signature “Jack Johnson Worlds Champion.” Becoming the first African American World Heavyweight Champion, Johnson defeated the previously undefeated World Heavyweight Champion James J. Jeffries at their famous July 4, 1910 Heavyweight Championship fight in Reno, Nevada dubbed the Fight of the Century. Johnson who was nicknamed the “Galveston Giant” defeated “Big Jim” Jeffries in the fifteenth round having knocked Jeffries down who had boasted of never being knocked down in a fight - three times during the fight. Race riots broke out across the country as a result of the fight. The 3.5 x 5.5 postcard is noted on verso as a Real “Velograph” Post Card Made and Printed in England. Real autographed examples of this card have sold in excess of $5,000 with even the few unsigned examples ever showing up for market selling in excess of $500. This card would be in excellent condition were it not for a nipped corner in the upper left where it likely was housed in an album with corner hinges. Remains attractive, rare and desirable.
