The configuration of a few years ago and the consecutive changes incident to the building and improvement of the property, have eradicated the foundations and the ash=heaps of the business that once kept the pace of every ear and progress of this town. Upon the former situation of two old businesses houses the White Warner Company manufacturers of the Household Range, have survived twice the ashes of a serious fire loss. From this has arisen the second largest stove building plants in New England. Hon Richard E Warner treasurer of the company and former mayor of Taunton tells an interesting story of the firm and continues the tradition of excellence of workmanship and of production. The pioneers of the company were Charles P. White and George L. Walker which began the company in 1882 in buildings leased from the Strange Cylinder Saw and machine company at 31 Tremont Street. They erected a small foundry and employed eight molders. They continued in this manner for one year until 1883. Richard E. Warner was admitted to the firm and the company was renamed the White, Walker and Company. Mr. Walker retired in 1886 and the present firm was incorporated as White Warner Company. It was noted they were blue shirt and overall men with experience, of practical men. Old Foundry men recall Charles P. White of our firm as the first foundry man in New England.
