1901 STATE STREET BRIDGE, OIL CITY, PENNSYLVANIA, Now Gone, ROBBINS & SON WB

Description: Oil City is a city in Venango County, Pennsylvania. Known for its prominence in the initial exploration and development of the petroleum industry, it is located at a bend in the Allegheny River at the mouth of Oil Creek. Initial settlement of Oil City was sporadic and tied to the iron industry. After the first oil wells were drilled in 1861, it became central to the petroleum industry while hosting headquarters for major oil companies. Tourism now plays a prominent role in the region by promoting oil heritage sites, nature trails, and Victorian architecture. The population was 9,608 in 2020. It is located at the confluence of the Allegheny River and Oil Creek. This card, published by “I Robbins and Son, Pittsburgh” captures the “State Street Bridge” crossing the Allegheny. The bridge was a “Lost Parker through truss” that was built in 1909 and has been replaced since. bridgehunter It is, however, still on this card which is of the white border era, 1915-30 and is in good condition with minor wear and a clean, clear image. The reverse is blank and has the normal staining for its age. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible.
