George Urban, Jr., a nationally important miller, was also a pioneer the development of electric light and power. He organized and led early area electric light companies that became the Buffalo General Electric Company, and later, the Niagara Electric Corporation. Urban and Buffalo Mayor Diehl came up with the idea for an Exposition in Buffalo and promoted it.
