Item 486099 ◊ 1890's Chromolithograph Victorian Paper Dolls From Lion Coffee - Set: The Lawn Very rare and fascinating "1890's Chromolithograph Victorian Paper Dolls From Lion Coffee" Set: The Lawn This a full set and includes all four of the original parts: 1) The lawn keeper, 2) the lawn keeper's assistant in a sailor outfit, 3) the lawn keeper's assistant his his second red striped outfit, then 4) the lawn background pieceThe Law with all parts put together measures approx. 7-1/4" x 5 inches. the lawn keeper is 5" tall and his assistant is 4" tall. The "backdrop" shows a large, idyllic farm house with a woods and large field (or lawn.)The Paper Dolls were one of several inserts, which were used for advertising by the Woolson Spice Company, Toledo, OH, and was included in packages of their Lion Coffee.Not being ones to waste good advertising space, on the back of each piece is printed advertising jingles, including: 1. "The universal favorite - Lion Coffee." 2. "Lion Coffee … which is drank daily in a million homes."3. "Our National Favorites - 4th of July, U.S. Constitution and LION COFFEE"4. "Take no substitute; insist on having LION COFFEE" These wonderful and original "Paper Dolls" are in very good condition. There is some occasional wear on the tabs, but the slots are in good condition. The pieces are all still clean, and sharp, with strong contrast and rich tonality. However two of the pieces were previously stored in a scrap book, and have the remnants of the flour paste on the back of the cardsPlease see all of the photos of these Paper dolls above to confirm the contents and conditionThese Victorian-era paper toys were once given away by the Woolson Spice Company as insert premiums. And Woolson Spice, the parent company was one of the most important users of this advertising gimmick.
