Titled "Kiss of the Siren", this piece is artist signed by Patton and is a Charcoal on Silk. This art was originally commissioned by C W Post, the founder of Post cereals. Post was a collector of rare and beautiful art. In 1979, as part of the C W Post Estate, this piece was sold in a Live auction. This is only the second time this piece has come up for purchase. The art measures 57.5 Wide x 44.5" high on the inside. The original ornate old wood frame is still attached and it increases the measurements to 7' 6", making this an exceptionally large piece. The glass is original and you can see the unusual pattern in a few areas indicating its age. The family has made attempts to research this painting and discovered that the Museum of Art in Indianapolis Indiana has the original color painted Art of "The Kiss of The Siren" by Gustav Wertheimer in 1882. From the Museum of Art: "Gustave Werteimer's The Kiss of the Siren depicts an erotic mythical Siren luring the Sailor to the bottom of the ocean with a passionate kiss."It was then discovered that this is the only known Earth Tone original of this painting. The color "Kiss of The Siren" was originally shown in Paris, France at many Art Salons for the wealthy to View. Many pieces from these Art Salons were shown to leaders around the world and taken to North America and shown at the World's Fair.It is believed that Mr Post likely came into contact with this piece while here in the US and enjoyed it so much that he commissioned this particular piece done in Earth Tones by Mr. Patton. The Artist clearly captured the feelings of the original art. By creating this Greek Mythology Art in Earth Tones, it captivates the image of the Storm, and how love becomes the focus even when facing death in the middle of a huge storm. Due to the size and original glass, photographing this Art proved challenging.
