Description: This is an original 1865 Map of the Border and Southern States of the Civil WarPhelps and Watsons Historical and Military Map of the Border and Southern StatesFolded up map is attached to the inside back cover of a small book.The book measures approximately 6 3/4 by 4 1/4 inches.Unfolded the map measures approximately 36 by 25 inchesMap and book published by Gaylord Watson in New York.Back of book with Joseph Torrey News-Dealer, St. Louis, Missouri The book has 36 pages and gives brief descriptions of battles and skirmishes of the war.The cover is worn, with small tears, scuffs, creases and pieces missing.Page 1 is glued to the inside cover. Pages 2 through 36 are very loosely held by 2 thin strings.Pages are browned with the first five pages with small stains and light foxing. Other pages are browned, but generally clean and unmarked. No writing. The map has creases and some chipping around the edges.There are several tears at the outside seams and at the intersections of folds.The right edge from the first fold down to the second fold is particularly fragile with a large split from the fold down almost to the letter "e" in ocean, and a large split in tear at the second fold below the "c"There are a few stains, but nothing that affects legibility.Color remains good. The item is in poor condition, but if not rare, certainly hard to find.Felt it might be of interest to a civil war buff. If not, likely I'll keep, do a little repair and frame it.
