CONDITION Overall, very good condition for an antiquarian book (1863).Hardcover, no dust jacket (as published); full Morocco binding in russet brown; shelf and handling wear, with rubbing or scuffing on edges and corners of front, back covers; front board shows through at corners, and there is a dent in outer edgeFront and back covers are elaborately decorated with imprinted borders and designs in gold; geometric pattern on inside edges of front and back boards in gold, show some transfer on first and last pagesSpine has raised bands and is decorated with ornate patterns, partial title, and editor last name in gold: spine shows rubbing and scuffing on edges, head, tail, and bands; Joints are intact and strong, back and front; front and back hinges are split, it appears that an attempt was made to repair front hinge with glue; endpapers are plain with glue on the front pastedown and tear on back pastedown387 pages are mostly tight, with a few loose pages after page 385; title page has a tear; pages are clean and bright with some age-related toning, no foxing; all edges are gilt and brightIllustrated throughout with over 75 etchings by the Dalziel Brothers based on drawings by Holman Hunt, J.
