He was also a strong writer, with works including 'Handbook for Young Painters' and a biography of the landscape painter John Constable.From the library of Edward Ackroyd (1810-1887), a notable Yorkshire-based manufacturer.Edited by Tom Taylor (1817-1880), an English critic and biographer, remembered for editing Punch magazine.Volume I is illustrated with a frontispiece portrait.Complete in two volumes.A first edition of this work. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally generally smart, with some slight loss to the spine labels. The spines are a little rubbed. Armorial bookplate to the front pastedown of each volume. A small amount of loss to the upper corner of page 209, vol I, not affecting the text block. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just the odd spot.
