There is sunning to the spines and some wear. Volume 1 has some evidence moisture to lower front cover. The joints are mostly intact. The hinges are intact. The binding is excellent. The pages are gilt-edged on three sides. They are in good condition with only an occasional page stain. There are occasional dog-eared pages. There no page tears. The first blank page in each book has inscription. Volume 1, "To Charlie, A Birthday Present, From Lila." Volume 2, "Charlie Loomis, Nov. 9, 1856". There is no internal handwriting.
