The bank was in business for a short period of time in 1859, taking initial steps to organize and open in February of that year. On May 27, 1859, the bank's president, Charles H. Fuller, took possession of a large number of partially signed notes, lacking only his signature, from the state treasurer and apparently placed them in circulation directly for his personal benefit. These notes had no security behind them and the bank announced it was winding up its affairs on November 14, 1859. This $5 is a remainder, probably left over after after the bank began winding up its affairs in late 1859. Sheets of some of these remainders were later repurposed to print City of Richmond scrip notes on in 1862. In modern times, someone took the time to piece three City of Richmond 60ยข notes together to come up with a complete Bank of Weston $5.
