Wilson from a drawing by William Tombleson. William Tombleson (1795 - c. 1846) was an English topographical and architecture artist, illustrator, copper and steel engraver, writer and printmaker, based in London. PROVENANCE: This print was published in "Tombleson's Views of the Rhine” edited by W.G. Fearnside. Published by W. Tombleson & Company, London: 1832. TYPE: Fine antique steel-engraved print printed on paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good; suitable for framing. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Rheinstein Castle (German: Burg Rheinstein) is a castle near the town of Trechtingshausen in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The castle was constructed in about 1316/1317. Rheinstein Castle was important for its strategic location. By 1344, the castle was in decline. By the time of the Palatine War of Succession, the castle was very dilapidated.
