Two woodcutters taking lunch beneath a tree, one on the ground beside a pile of wood at right with food on cloth in his lap and looking at viewer, the other on a log at left, looking at a dog begging for some of the food in his hand, their axes lying beside them. DATE PRINTED: Offered in its re-published state with publication line altered dated 1806. The plate was first published in 1803 with title 'Woodcutters at Dinner'.SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 37 x 50 cm , 14.5 x 19.75 inches (large) plus margins with a blank back. ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Thomas Williamson (active 1801-1825) from a painting by George Morland. George Morland (26 June 1763 in London – 29 October 1804 in Brighton) was an English painter. His early work was influenced by Francis Wheatley but after the 1790s he came into his own style. His best compositions focus on rustic scenes: farms and hunting; smugglers and gypsies; and rich, textured landscapes informed by Dutch Golden Age painting. PROVENANCE: Published Jany 1 1806 by R.
