Description: For the particular buyer who wants a distinguished overdate variety of the older, larger-than-present sized Draped Bust Half Dollar series in an encapsulated holder, we offer this 1805 / 6 O-101, of only ~ 750 of these half dollars still surviving. This coin shows the 6 over 5 pedigree marks, the older "0" showing inside and at the bottom of the newer "0," and the tip of the previous "5" beyond the "6" at the upper right. What is amazing about this specimen is the toning that grew in over 200 years: a ring of blue near the rim on both sides, fading into lavenders, reds, oranges, and silvery yellows. Yes, this coin went "Monster" to become a premium coin. In its older NGC holder, it looks like a good candidate to try a regrade submission to go higher. All this is an interesting insight into a bit of Early American history of our grand old Philadelphia Mint, Federal government dynamics, and who might have had this half dollar - bank or rich local personage, or some of both - in circulation some but then saved at the Fine level for successive collections. We are pleased to offer you this coin to continue its numismatic journey. Shipped with signature tracking, free.
