Description: Charles Brockden Brown was an early American writer whose works covered a variety of genres. He is most remembered for his novels, Gothic in nature with political undertones, supporting the new republic and republican ideals. “Ormond” is part of a spate of novels written by Brown between 1798 and 1799. This copy has lost its title page and has a torn page at front, as well as having the bottom torn off the last page, a page of advertising for “H Caritat, Bookseller, Stationer and Librarian”. There is a facsimile title page included. On the inside front is the name “Elizabeth Holmes/March 1822/1822” and at the head of the first page of text is stamped “R. Thompson”. Below Elizabeth’s name is much faded writing which seems to be someone else’s name but is faded.
