Description: This listing is for the old book that you see in the photos. The title page reads: The Works of Jonathan Richardson Containing I. The theory of painting. II. Essay on the art of criticism, (so far as it relates to painting) III. The science of a connoisseur. A new addition corrected with additions of an essay on the knowledge of prints, and cautions to collectors. Ornamented with portraits by Woolridge, &c. of the most eminent painters dimension dedicated by promethion to Sir Joshua Reynolds the whole intended as a supplement to the antecdotes of painters mentioned. Dedicated, by Permiffion, to Sir Joshua Reynolds. The whole intended as a supplement to the anecdotes of Painters and engravers. Near the bottom of the page:Sold by T. And J. Edgerton, Whitehall; Jay. Debrett, Piccadilly; R. Faulder, and W. Miller, New-Bond Street; J Cuthell, Middle Row, Halborn; J. Barker, Ruffell Court; in E. Jeffrey, Pall-Mall. 1792 There is a list of illustrations but the only illustration that I have found is on the title page. I see no indications that they have been removed. I think that they were not included when the book was bound. The binding appears to be original. Including the spine, the covers measure close to 7 1/2 by 9 inches. It weighs close to 1 pound 14 ounces. The pages are numbered up to page 287. There are a couple of old inscriptions that you can see in the photos. "1883" is written in pencil in the upper right corner of the first blank page. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. The covers are somewhat worn and the front cover is detached. The edges of the closed pages are darkened to varying degrees from time and exposure. The pages are very lightly discolored from age with the first few and last few darkened more. Also, the pages are a little more darkened towards the edges. The pages have rolling distortions so that they do not lie perfectly flat. I think that is probably from how they were bound. Some photos taken at an angle and the photo of the fore-edge should give you idea of what I mean. The first pages up to page 18 have distortions in the form of a curved line that looks like it was caused by something pressed against the paper. There is very little (nearly none) foxing that is mostly on the first few pages. There are no missing, loose or torn pages. The pages are not brittle. The binding feels nice and tight. Otherwise, this book is fine and as shown. I guarantee this book to be as described and represented by the photos. The photos are part of the description; please look at all of them. I allow three business days for shipping, but I usually ship the same or next day if possible. Please note that the lighting in my photos is uneven, and there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors; different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs "approximately" because no measurements are exact, and some things are difficult to measure.I like to leave feedback after I know that the item has arrived and that the buyer is satisfied. I reserve the right to cancel any bids without explanation. I sometimes purchase signature delivery for my more valuable packages because of the possibility of them being stolen off of a porch or damaged by weather. I often, but not always, ship the same or next day. Often, I have a double-walled box custom made for larger items, which might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually made from biodegradable materials. Please email me with any questions or suggestions. I do not ship on weekends, and I might not be available to answer emails on weekends. Thanks for looking at my ad.
