One escudos minted in Mexico of this variety with the crosslet cross reverse are very rare and highly sought after. A portion of the date is visible on the obverse as well as most of the shield. On the reverse you have an almost perfectly centered cross as well as evidence of coral encrustations in the devices resulting from being on the ocean floor for over 300 years!While many examples of Mexico mint escudos in varying denominations were recovered from the 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet shipwreck, very few of this variety were recovered with this level of detail and eye appeal.
