Description: Details:16th Century Italian RapierThis beautiful and rarely seen rapier originates from Bologna and dated circa 1510, making it a very early example. The hilt is very interesting with a pair of S shaped quillons, with the ends forming into a mushroom shape. The guard is fitted with a large side ring with the same embellishments, with the rear branch flows down to form a finger guard. The cut out in the blade to accommodate the finger guard is a very typical Northern Italian addition to the overall design, and typical of blades of this period and area. The pommel is expertly crafted and flows with the same overall deigns and embellishments. The blade is a double edge and shows extensive signs of use. The extensive stress cracks and delamination’s are very good evidence of extensive use, but judging by its slim line blade its most likely was used for duelling. The rapier is very well balanced and robust and a fine early example.Museum quality example.Specifications:Overall Length 95.5 CMBlade 82 CMWeight 820g Contact me for further assistance.Important shipping information:For USA buyers please follow your state laws as they vary If you require information please speak to your local P.D.New Zealand and Australia buyers please check your laws before bidding as certain items will require a license before import them into the country (this can be done by taking a photograph with the specifications of the item and speaking to your local police station).Russian buyers please contact me before bidding.
