The outermost layers of the filter are made of larger fibers to trap larger particles while the innermost layer traps the fine particles down the filter's micron rating. Most of the competition only has 3 stages of filtration, but USWF melt blown filters include an additional layer. This fourth layer of filtration provides a more consistent distribution of dirt through the filter improving its efficiency without sacrificing any dirt holding capacity.
